Acupuncture is a Traditional
Chinese Medicine and there is evidence of its use as far back as 1000BC. It is
now widely used in Physiotherapy along side Manual Therapy and Exercise in the
management of pain, inflammation and to aid the body's recovery and
rehabilitation. There has been extensive scientific research carried out into acupuncture and its use within Physiotherapy. It has been found that the needles used in Acupuncture stimulate the brain and spinal chord to produce chemicals such as Endorphins, Serotonin and Melatonin (all known as pain relieving chemicals). These chemicals assist in the bodies healing process as well as providing pain relief. It has been shown that most people benefit from Acupuncture, however it may take more than one session for a notable difference to be seen as the effect is cumulative and pain relief builds up over time. Some patients will react to treatment faster than others. Flames Physiotherapy Centre and the Physiotherapists are licensed by the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) to carry out Acupuncture as part of Physiotherapy Treatment. |
